ILGWU Pins & Needles Volume 3

to release @ SLO Museum Art on Dec. 2, 2022

Pins & Needles is an informational broadsheet produced as needed by the Institute 4 Labor Generosity Workers & Uniforms.  The ILGWU is currently embedded in the Fashion Fiber and Materials program at Cal State University Los Angeles.  The ILGWU is the working archive, experimental factory and big ship era research lab supporting the curiosity of Frau Fiber, former East German textile worker turned super hero who reflects on the history of textile, apparel and transportation labor rights, and supports the efforts of contemporary workers, who continue to labor at “race to the bottom wages”

The first Pins and Needles ILGWU newspaper was first created for Frau Fiber’s Mission in America at the Huntington Beach Art Center in June 2019.  The second volume was created during the pandemic and distributed at the ILGWU in downtown Long Beach Ca. These newspapers with text and image included articles about Fast Fashion supply chain, coronavirus capitalism, current events surrounding the textile and apparel industry, biography about  Frau Fiber, Sewing Rebellion patterns, soup recipes, and more.

Pins and Needles Vol. 3 includes Frau Fiber’s current interests in the global supply chain through the big ship era, “Your Loom is a Weapon” comic strip, coffee and cake with Frau Fiber, and the bio of a contemporary garment worker.
